We’ve been working with the source since the ‘mines’ inception in the late 90s. Cactus Quartz is also known as “Magaliesberg quartz” (to not reveal the locality in its early days, this deterred many a rock hauler). The village of Boekenhouthoek in Mpumalanga, South Africa now thrives on its own mining economy.

The name 'Spirit Quartz' was the name given to the bright purple variety by the miners, as this variety looked similar in colour to our South African methylated spirits cleaning alcohol! Rumours have circulated that it was due to the miners drinking this liquid, but alas, this is just a rumour, and not true!
