This is an incredibly beautiful cluster of  vitreous Smoky Quartz crystals with black Aegirine inclusions on a Feldspar-rich matrix. The Smoky Quartz crystals seem to have intergrown with each other, giving it a rather interesting look.

Geological Terminology:
  • Awesome specimen of semi-translucent Smoky Quartz cluster with black and rod-like Aegirine crystals on an opaque Feldspar matrix from Malawi.
  • The Smoky Quartz crystals have growth imprints and contact damage visible.
  • The black and vitreous Aegirine crystals can be seen intruding the Quartz crystals and the matrix.
  • Rainbow inclusions can be seen in the Smoky Quartz crystals.
